Clipper Round the World Yacht Race
· Ten identical yachts are currently battling it out over 35,000 grueling ocean miles and for the first time ever Victoria B.C. is part of the excitement. The Victoria, Canada yacht is the first and only Canadian entry in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race which sees ten nations going head-to-head in an 11 month course around the globe.

The eyes of the yachting world will soon be on Victoria as we host this world-class event at the Inner Harbour from May 6th to 14th.

Bastion Square Festival of the Arts
· March 30th to September 30th, 2006 - Bastion Square is transformed into a colourful and eclectic European-style "Artisans Showcase and Open-Air Marketplace," with vendors selling original paintings & prints, stained glass, multi-media jewelry, woodworks, pottery, herbal soaps, clothing and accessories. Many artisans demonstrate their work on site. Visitors also enjoy entertainment with busking musicians and traveling entertainers.

Held at the original site of the Hudson's Bay Company's Fort of Victoria, historic Bastion Square stretches from the 1100 block of Government St. to the foot of Wharf St. overlooking the Inner Harbour and is home to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia.

Astronomy Day at the Royal BC Museum
· May 6th, 2006 - The Royal BC Museum and Royal Astronomical Society of Canada team up to present a full day of family-oriented space activities. Activities range from lectures on the asteroid, current topics in astronomy and telescope mirror-grinding demonstrations to displays of telescopes and real space meteorites, telescope views of sunspot activity and a variety of children's programs.

Visitors also have the opportunity to talk to professional astronomers about the meaning of the universe, and to learn how amateur astronomers can observe space with regular binoculars and telescopes. Multimedia presentations take visitors on a journey through the solar system, and offer a special look at Canada's presence in space. 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Scattered Artists Third Annual Studio Tour

International Museum Day Celebrations
· May 18th - 22nd, 2006 - Victoria's rich history as a commercial and naval port, the oldest city in Western Canada and the provincial capital is reflected in its wealth of historic buildings and heritage institutions. Local museums want to show you something you've never seen before!

Originally designated in 1977 by UNESCO, International Museum Day is celebrated the world over to raise awareness of the vital role museums play in society. Although International Museum Day is officially May 18, this year Greater Victoria art galleries, museums and historic sites are celebrating our city's rich heritage with five days of special activities starting on Museum Day, and continuing through to Victoria Day, May 22.

- Emily Carr (Actress Molly Rather Newman) will read from her collected works, May 18, 19 and 20 at Emily Carr House.

- Special guided tours of the grounds, and a speakers series in the auditorium will be offered at St. Ann's Academy.

- A display from the collection of the Canadiana Costume Museum will open in the museum in Hatley Park National Historic Site at Royal Roads University.

- On May 20 and 21 over two dozen military re-enactors, representing Western Canada's military history from the 1790's to the 1950's, will camp out with their period tents uniforms and equipment on the grounds of Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site.

- The Royal British Columbia Museum will offer Discovery Programs daily at 1:15 p.m. May 18 to 22 on the third floor of the Museum. Topics will include; Life on a Beach, Skeletons and a B.C. History Mystery.

Visitors to any of the participating sites can enter to win the ultimate museum prize, a family pass to all of the above museums, galleries and historic sites, as well as other heritage prizes.

Aventa Ensemble presents Music from Quebec
· May 19, 2006 - Aventa Ensemble, founded in 2003, is a professional ensemble promoting Canadian works and new works from the international repertoire. Aventa is comprised of approximately fifteen musicians, which are drawn from the ranks of the Victoria Symphony, University of Victoria and Victoria Conservatory of Music as well as freelance players.

For our final concert of our season we are delighted to welcome Gilles Tremblay back to Victoria. Louis Bessette, acclaimed Quebec pianist, will perform Tremblay's piano concerto, Envoi and solo works from Arcuri and Palmieri. The ensemble will also perform works from Bregent, Gonneville and Tremblay's ever-changing Solstices. This concert is being recorded by CBC for the program, TWO NEW HOURS. Swiftsure International Yacht Race
· May 27th - 29th, 2006 - The 63rd Swiftsure International Yacht Race promises to be a celebration including a return of some of the classic racing yachts from the 1950s and 60s and many land-based activities for the whole family around Victoria's Inner Harbour.

The Swiftsure International Yacht Race is one of North America's most challenging overnight offshore competitions. The Juan de Fuca Strait's daunting combination of occasional fog, unpredictable winds, strong tides and tricky currents tests seamanship, strategy, stamina, tactics, and teamwork. Vancouver Island Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay For The Kids

Presented by Nickelodeon Theatricals and ThemeSTAR, Dora's Pirate Adventure! is based on the number one preschool show on commercial television.

In Dora's Pirate Adventure!, Dora, her best buddy Boots the Monkey, and the rest of their friends embark on an exciting trip to Treasure Island. For the first time ever, the family-friendly stage show will feature Dora's cousin, Diego – a nature and science expert. The audience will help them navigate over Music Mountain, through silly Singing Bridge and help them confront the Pirate Piggies. Canada Day
· July 1- Canada Day celebrations for the West Shore communities are held on the grounds of Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. Events include performances by military and pipe bands, childrens activities and a giant birthday cake. Free admission at Fort Rodd Hill 250-478-5849

Folkfest

Summer at The Butchart Gardens

Luminara Lantern Festival
· July 22 - Imagine, if you will, a stroll in Beacon Hill Park on a warm summer night, the darkness gently pushed back by the glow of thousands of colourful handmade lanterns. Acoustic music gently drifts through the park while performance artists and dancers set light in motion, adding pageantry and spectacle.

Symphony Splash
· August 6, 2006 - Sun. 4:00 PM - The Victoria Symphony Orchestra performs from a barge floating in the Inner Harbour for an audience of thousands. Approximately 40,000 people crowd the Inner Harbour during the August long weekend to hear a mixture of pops and classics played by the Victoria Symphony.
